Two cars were totaled early Sunday morning after a crash on the city center onramp to eastbound state Highway 14.Nicholas W. Hawthorne, 29, of Vancouver told the Washington State Patrol that he lost control of his 2007 GMC Sierra pickup, spun 180 degrees, and crashed into the guardrail.The WSP press release said he left the car about 1:54 a.m. and then returned for his cellphone to call for help. He said conditions were slippery.A 1997 Honda Civic driven by Merry E. Cammack, 18, of Vancouver then came onto the ramp. She saw the pickup blocking the lane but was unable to avoid it and collided with it. Her car ended up facing westbound and the pickup was facing southbound, the patrol said.The report said Hawthorne had a lower left leg injury but was not taken to a hospital. Cammack was not injured, the report said.Both vehicles were towed.The patrol said the accident was caused by driving too fast for conditions.Hawthorne was cited for DUI and for driving with a suspended license.
