Shaw takes top spot in first of three Roubaix Cup races

first_imgParticipating riders were challenged with a variety of terrain to race through, including loose gravel, mud, dry pavement, ice and snow, along with a fierce east headwind.In the two lap, 46 kilometre event, Shaw and defending champion Pat Ferris pulled away from the pack early on the gravel section of the race, and as the two raced neck-and-neck, Shaw made his move to gain some ground on the champ on the long hill portion of the race, providing enough distance to finish first.Shaw’s top spot finish came at a time of 1:44:59, while Ferris, who finished in second, completed the race with a time of 1:48:38. Roger St. Jean rounded out third place at 1:53:19.- Advertisement -Despite suffering a few crashes Dan Webster still managed to finish fourth for the day, completing the race with a time of 1:53:25, while 2010 winner Gary Hilderman ended up in fifth at 1:56:50.The day also featured a one lap distance, which was won by David Feyissa with a time of 56:00, while Adam Currie finished second with the stopclock reading 1:05:55.Round two of the three race Rubaix Cup series hits the pavement this Sunday, March 17 beginning at 2 p.m. from Baldonnel School.Advertisementlast_img read more
