by: Peter StrozniakEleven credit union mergers were announced or completed in February with the largest consolidation coming from California, where the $335 million Visterra Credit Union in Moreno Valley will merge into the $757 million Altura Credit Union in Riverside, Calif. When finalized in July, the merger will result in the 38th billion dollar cooperative in the Golden State.“Following the major challenges experienced during the Great Recession, some of which still linger, Visterra’s board began exploring opportunities and ideas that would ensure Visterra’s long-term survival in a changed marketplace,” Barbara Purvis, Visterra’s board chair, wrote in a letter to members. “A merger with Altura quickly emerged as the best option for maintaining and improving our range of products and the level of member service that you expect and deserve.” continue reading » ShareShareSharePrintMailGooglePinterestDiggRedditStumbleuponDeliciousBufferTumblr
A group of five German media with a combined circulation of nearly 500,000 are visiting Donegal this weekend to take part in a Donegal walking press trip, hosted by Fáilte Ireland, as the National Tourism Development Authority in conjunction with Tourism Ireland – Ireland’s overseas marketing body.Visitor numbers from Germany are strong this year, with data showing 18% growth compared to 2018 figures. This demonstrates the importance of the German market for Ireland. The journalists write for some of Germany’s leading newspapers and began their visit at the stone fort Grianán of Aileach before heading to enjoy the scenery and views from Malin Head on the Inishowen Peninsula. Fáilte Ireland research shows that German visitors are attracted to our scenery, coastal areas, cliffs, and rocky seascapes. They also enjoy exploring in nature and offering a variety of activities is a key motivator for them.Brenda King, Fáilte Ireland’s International Publicity Executive, stressed the importance of international media coverage for Ireland –“Welcoming media, such as this group, to our shores plays a big part to ensuring Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way are on the map when it comes to attracting German visitors. We believe that it is extremely important for visiting media to experience first-hand what the Wild Atlantic Way has to offer the adventure traveller.“The region around Donegal provides endless possibilities for walking and cycling and we are promoting this message heavily. By providing the visiting German media with a positive experience, the coverage created will be critical in attracting more German tourists to Ireland.” A number of activities have been arranged for the group to experience while on their visit to Donegal, such as the Wild Alpaca Way Walk; walking tour of Ramelton; meeting full time chef and part-time blogger Pauline Sugrue who runs the Wild Garlic Table cookery school; a walk along the Ballyhiernan Bay with guide Sean Mullan; visit to Glenveigh National Park; walking tour of Sliabh Liag with Paddy Clarke and a visit to the Distillery; meeting with representatives from the Donegal Food Tours.German media enjoy the delights of Donegal! was last modified: October 11th, 2019 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalGermanMediavisit
24 April 2009 The government has acknowledged the important role that South Africans abroad played in voting in the country’s 2009 general election. Government spokesperson Themba Maseko said in a statement this week that it was significant that over 16 000 South Africans living abroad had voted at SA embassies in a special vote last week. Almost half of these – over 7 000 – voted in London, where the entire South African High Commission was mobilised last Wednesday to ensure that voting went smoothly. By casting their votes, Maseko said, South Africans abroad had strengthened their bond with their compatriots at home, and given substance to the Constitutional Court ruling that South Africans abroad had the right to vote. “The enthusiasm of those who queued outside South Africa House throughout the day bodes well for creating the atmosphere for more South Africans to return and make a contribution through deploying their skills in nation-building or creating more jobs,” Maseko added.DA gets overseas vote Over 9 000 overseas votes had been counted at the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC’s) results centre in Pretoria by Thursday afternoon, with the Democratic Alliance (DA) winning 7 581 of these votes, followed by the newly formed Congress of the People (Cope) with 918 votes and the African National Congress (ANC) with 673 votes. Commenting on the results, DA leader Helen Zille said there were “many skilled, passionate people abroad” who wanted to return home, adding that the way to get them to return was to improve the quality of and eradicate crime in the country. The party that instituted the legal action that won expatriates the right to vote, the Freedom Front Plus, only managed to clinch 270 of the overseas votes. “I’m a bit disappointed, because we fought for it,” party leader Pieter Mulder told BuaNews.‘Brain-bank’ of South Africans abroad Maseko said the enthusiasm of the expats who voted last week also boded well for building a “brain-bank” of South Africans living abroad to help improve the country’s image abroad, and to bring investment, knowledge and skills back into the country. Maseko said that not-for-profit organisation the Homecoming Revolution, and the International Marketing Council’s Global South Africans network, were doing much to connect South Africans living abroad with their home country. “The Homecoming Revolution has done excellent work over the past five years or so in creating such a climate and proactively connecting South Africans abroad with companies at home seeking skills,” Maseko said. The recently formed Global South Africans network, active in the US and UK, aims to build a global network of skilled and influential South Africans who can help the country attract foreign direct investment. Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Ryan Martin 171214No change in thought process this morning. Snow is pushing off to the east this morning, with action only around over the eastern third of the state and leaving quickly. The best snows are already in the Appalachians. We stay cold for a couple of days behind last night’s clipper system as north winds dominate, but temperature moderation going to attempt a push into the state this weekend.High pressure behind the system keeps us dry today into most of tomorrow. We have to keep an eye on some lake snow potential both days, but that mostly lingers in the northeast. Sunshine should be a dominant player over central, western and southern parts of Ohio, but clouds will likely hold firmer up north. Temps will continue to moderate statewide Saturday, with only north central and northeast Ohio staying closer to freezing.Sunday looks wet, but not until later in the afternoon. Strong southwest winds will be in to start the day Sunday, and rains push in for midafternoon over western Ohio, spreading east from there. We like rain totals of .25”-.50” over about 90% of the state, Models are in disagreement on whether we see a secondary push of moisture after midnight Sunday through midday Monday that can bring a little more liquid. Either way, it will be a nice little batch of rain that will get rid of most snow cover.Monday afternoon we go drier behind that system, and we stay dry through Thursday morning. Temperatures moderate through the period, and will be normal to even slightly above normal by midweek next week. Our final front of the 10 day period arrives late next Thursday afternoon into Friday the 22nd. This front again brings mostly rain, as the cold air waits to arrive until after the moisture is gone. We look for a few hundredths to .3” of rain over 70% of the state. That system will be the one that puts the nail in the coffin for a white Christmas, unless cold air can come faster.Dry for the 23rd into the 24th. Extended models are suggesting a potential late Christmas Eve system that goes through Christmas day. This system does not have as strong of characteristics this morning, but we are not going to remove it from the extended forecast window completely. If it can survive, and if the air is cold enough, we still may have a chance at a white Christmas…but for now those thoughts have to go on life support.
Essential Reading! Get my 2nd book: The Lost Art of Closing “In The Lost Art of Closing, Anthony proves that the final commitment can actually be one of the easiest parts of the sales process—if you’ve set it up properly with other commitments that have to happen long before the close. The key is to lead customers through a series of necessary steps designed to prevent a purchase stall.” Buy Now There is a difference between proactively creating new opportunities and reactively letting opportunities come to you. The first is more salesmanship, the second more order-taking. Both are important, and you want all of the opportunities available to you, but only one allows you to take your results into your own hands. You proactively create opportunities by nurturing relationships, prospecting, and making a strong case for change. The nurturing gets you known, and proves that you are a value creator. The prospecting gains you an appointment to explore change, and to share ideas. The case for change is what compels action, in this case, and opportunity for your client to produce better outcomes and a deal for you. This is the work salespeople do, even though we spend more time talking about opportunity capture, something that is only necessary because someone created the opportunity in the first place. There are, however, other ways for you to acquire opportunities. You can wait passively for you dream clients to decide they need something, create an RFP, and invite you to participate, even if only as column fodder. You can also be the kind of customer-service focused person with a sales title that acquires new opportunities just by hanging around and waiting. These opportunities are no less valuable, and they may still have something to do with you being known, liked, and trusted, while also possessing the ability to create value. The difference here is that proactive opportunity creation is intentional, and it allows for greater control of your overall results, while reactively waiting for opportunities is passive, leaving your results dependent upon the luck that never produces equal results to doing the work.Selling is equal parts opportunity creation and opportunity capture. Because this is true, success in sales requires that you treat opportunity creation as if it is equal to winning deal. Over time, your ability to create opportunities will end up with you winning more than your fair share of those opportunities.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the government’s own advisers had now admitted that the country’s economy was in a “deep mess” and asked the Centre to remonetise it by putting money in the hands of “the needy and not the greedy”. He also said the Congress had been cautioning about the state of the economy for long. “Government’s own economic advisors have finally acknowledged what we cautioned for long – India’s economy is in a deep mess. “Now, accept our solution and remonetise the economy, by putting money back in the hands of the needy and not the greedy,” Gandhi wrote on Twitter.
