Photo credit: thedominican.netPublic Expenditure Review Commissioner Swinburne Lestrade says the Government of Dominica should review its Social Assistance spending as during the period 2005 to 2010 the amount has tripled. Mr. Lestrade made this observation while addressing a meeting to engage member territories in discussions with a view to sensitizing them on public finances and to make recommendations on the way forward last night.“The fact is we have to take note of what’s happening; one of the things that’s happening is that between 2005 to 2010 social assistance spending more than tripled. Again, that’s not necessarily a criticism there may be very good reasons for that. I think we all live here and we know the demands that are made and are placed on the system, on the Government for support of various kinds.”Mr. Lestrade said the commission has observed the increase which is a red flag that the Government needs to address.“So it is certainly a red flag that there to which I think we are compelled to pay attention. I’m suggesting it’s not an accident it’s a deliberate policy of the Government, it’s one that could be justified but I think even the Government itself may need to take a sit back and take a cold hard look at a distance as to what is happening,” he said.Dominica Vibes News Sharelast_img read more

IU Basketball

first_imgI was looking through some sports college info and found this information on IU.  Evidently, both Devonte Green and Romeo Langford are going to explore the NBA draft.  It did not say whether they had hired agents or whether they were just exploring the possibilities.  Green might be ready, but I don’t think Langford is anywhere close to NBA level yet.Coach Archie Miller will be looking to his new recruiting class to bring the Hoosiers back to the level their fans expect them to be.  They fell short this past year when they did not make the NCAA tournament.  Miller has 2 recruits already signed.  They are Armaan Franklin, a 6’4″ guard from Cathedral in Indianapolis and Trayce Jackson-Davis, a 6’9″ forward from Center Grove.  It is good to see that IU and Purdue are both going after Hoosier basketball recruits. They are hoping to sign 2 other highly touted recruits in 6’4″ Harlond Beverly from Florida, and Trendon Watford from Alabama.  Trendon’s brother, Christian, was a standout at IU.  If the Hoosiers can land these 2 and not lose Green and/or Langford, they should be much stronger next year.last_img read more
